I didn't get to go to the park this weekend riding, but I did walk down Santiago Road with Kadin to Cook's Corner. He loves to be petted and made a fuss over. He's a great ambassador for the 'horse' breed.
Along the road I saw what I think is a screech owl that looks to have been hit by a car. The wings are there but separated from the body by about a yard. I didn't poke around to look for a head, but the feathers were charcoal grey with little flecks of white here and there and very 'fluffy'. The color of the wing feathers was mottled dark brown and cream, almost exactly like the coloring of a golden eagle. The body size was a little larger than my fist however and the wings were about the size of those of a blue jay. Poor critter - I'll bet he would be considered 'road kill'. If anyone wants to investigate, the body is on the ground at the base of the cyclone fence that is across Santiago Road from the big parking lot of Cook's Corner.
The weather was a little too hot for riding, but it was just right for shopping with the girls... :-)
Happy Trails,
Shirley, Kadin and Jesus
