Sleepy Hollow Trail
Visit our photo gallery and check out the recently added pictorial of the secluded Sleepy Hollow Trail.  This is a wonderful trail and a treat for anyone that takes the time to hike back into the park.  The trail is closed to mountain bikes, so for those of you looking for a place to get away from those rascals this trail is the place to go.  I bike and hike so can appreciate both sides :-)

We actually rode our bikes to the trailhead, then hiked them into Sleepy Hollow a little bit so that we could lock them up out sight.  We then hiked the full length of the trail, snacked and watched deer.  It was a perfect trip!

Creek finally allowed to flow free! PDF Print E-mail
Written by Ranger Bobbie
Have you noticed the the new little reroute on the bottom of Whiting Road? Some of you may remember how that area looked following all the rains from last years storms. The creek definitely wanted to take over where that road used to be! Well, we've decided to let it do just that! We moved the road up the hill and out of the creekbed so that the creek could, quite literally, be allowed to flow freely where it wanted to go. This allows emergency access, if it should be needed, for vehicles as well. In addition, any wildlife that uses the creekbed are also safe from human impacts with all traffic, foot, bike, horse, or occasional vehicle, traveling well above the water line. Many mountain bikers were wary that this route would not be as much fun as picking your way through all of the rocks down below, but have been pleasantly surprised by the new course. It even gives you a little downhill speed at the very end before you head under the oak canopy. Please, stay on the new trail and allow the creek to flow freely!
